Hye Yeon Says Good-Bye

In what seems to be her last blog entry in English for now, Hye Yeon Cho, 8 dan professional from S. Korea, wrote that she’s going to stop her English blog in order to be able to focus on growing her professional career:

I wanted to share Baduk with friends in the foreign countries. But now I realize that it is no longer possible for me. To be a better player, I decide not to come here anymore. If I were a strong player, I could be a teacher or a good friend of yours. I absolutely do not deserve your attention, so I will leave my precious friends and sit down before the Baduk board.

I wrote about Hye Yeon’s blog several times. Too bad we lose this unique Go resource for the English Go community – I personally know of no other such strong professional player who keeps an English blog.

Thank you, good-bye, and good luck, Hye Yeon!

    Sorin,

Hye-Yeon had already achieved 8 dan.

Yes, I regretted it too for me, although I wrote on her blog that I do NOT regret it because it will be good for her.

  2. Sorin says:

    Thanks for the correction, Tommie!
Hope she’ll come back after achieving 9p.

  3. Tommie says:

    I sincerely hope so, Sorin.

I find it really incredible & amazing what she achieved.
Either you call it a study on the side a/o becoming 8d along the way.

Hi Sorin… Goood and great news!
She accepted she was in a bad mood when she said “I quit to this blog”… but only will return until she is 9p. Hye Yeon will be back. :D I know for sure!

    Hi,my friends, Sorin,Tommie,n Mario.

    R u also cacti?

    I’m ill at ease…..

    What shall I do?

  6. Sorin says:

At first I didn’t understand the “cacti” reference, then I found some nice comment and request to “come back” from someone who signed “Cactus” on Hye Yeon’s blog: http://loveku.livejournal.com/36448.html

I know from my own experience that it takes time and energy to write even short entries and make them personal and interesting, on the one hand. On the other hand, I know how disappointing it is sometimes to see that the response one gets to some post seems small (as in very few people comment), so that’s discouraging.
Thing is even if many people read some post, a very small percentage of them are actually commenting and “getting engaged” in discussion.

    Mario,

did you have personal (e-mail) contact with her?
Do you know it from her as first source?

  8. Sorin says:

I think Mario refers to her addition to the “last blog entry”, where she states that she’ll come back once she reaches 9p.

  9. loveku says:

    Hi,Sorin
Thank you for your kind response.
    But I’m still……
    Thanks again.

    Hi,Tommie

    What’s going on?
If you have anything to say,
leave a message ( not comment )to loveku, plz.
I’ll give you an answer ,even though not immediately.
    Thanks.

    Tommie,
Sorin is right. I refer to her last update in the blog.

She will be back, because she will become a 9P: I have no doubt that! Never underestimate her heart of a champion!
