I find it nice to be reminded from time to time about the fundamentals in Go.
Takao Shinji defended the Honinbo title.
The challenger, Yoda Norimoto, only managed to win one out of 5 games.
Again, just like earlier this year in the Kisei title, the younger player defeated the more senior player.
All game records are on the Honinbo title page.
I wrote a new lesson: “Fighting techniques - kikashi”.
It is based on variations on move 33 from the 4th Honinbo game. After introducing some basic sacrifice and kikashi techniques, the main question is how should White respond to Black’s cut with 1 in the following diagram, given that Black’s ideal is to get both A and B in sente:

Alexander Dinerchtein generously offered some of his game commentaries from the very recent WAGC.
He commented the following games: China vs. Netherlands, Japan vs. Czech Republic and Romania vs. South Africa.
You can visit Alexander’s web page at: http://breakfast.go4go.net/.
Takao won the 4th game of the Honinbo title and leads 3-1.
He is just one win away from defending the title.
The trailer for movie inspired from the life of Go Seigen, “The Go Master”, is up on youtube.
It looks great, I can’t wait for it to be available on DVD…

Game 4 of the Honinbo Title started today - there are a lot of variations on the Cyberoro server, especially related to Black’s invasion inside White’s left side moyo.
The game will be concluded tomorrow.
Takao won the 3rd game of the Honinbo Sen, so the score is 2-1 for him.
I just published an interview with Cristian Pop - know as “Solaris” on some Go servers - the 7 dan from Romania who won an excellent 4th place at the recent World Amateur Go Championship.
He also has an online Go school - see his website if you are interested to join: http://www.goschool.resurse.com/
Several readers pointed out that the last version of the Sydney Go Journal had an error, which made several pages unreadable.
I just uploaded another version, this time it should hopefully work fine: http://361points.com/sgj/
