Playing Baduk in a Park in Korea
I found today a blog entry of someone from Busan, South Korea, about people playing Baduk (the Korean for “Go”) in a park.
See one of the pictures below; click on it and you’ll see more, on flickr.com:
It reminds me of parks in Bucharest, Romania where I grew up, except that people there play chess and backgammon, not Go
Now that I think of it, I don’t remember ever seeing people playing Go in parks in Japan…

Hello. I’m glad you liked my photos. It’s pretty interesting being an expat in South Korea, but my afternoon of taking photos of all the Baduk / Go players at Yongdu-san Park was definitely been one of the highlights of my time here so far. Someone asked me what how the players reacted to me taking their picture, but the truth is that 90% of everyone there didn’t even notice me because they were so intent on playing. It was fascinating.
I grew up learning how to play chess (which I still love to play), but I’ve also been interested in learning how to play Go for years. My problem, however, was that I never knew anyone else who played Go. My interest has been renewed though. I’ll be looking more through your blog here soon.
Cheers.
